As previously notified, NIPSA is currently preparing a response to the Department of Finance’s 2022-2025 budget which is currently out for consultation.

In advance of that, NIPSA has warmly welcomed the allocation of £16.2million from the Complementary Fund in the budget for the building of a 15-acre park in the Albert Basin in Newry.

Newry is currently the only city that does not have a green space park and this development will improve the lives of workers and their families in the surrounding area and indeed all of us who visit the area.

I am very proud of the role played by some local NIPSA members, including Helena McSherry who spoke at the local rally on behalf of her NIPSA branch and as part of the joint trade union campaign for the building of the park. Neither NIPSA nor Helena were associated with the ‘No Park No Vote’ campaign that called for people not to vote for the politicians on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council who opposed the park.
