The last 9 months have turned the world of work and our lives upside down. Members, representatives and staff have had to rise to the challenge and I am proud to say, as is NIPSA’s General Council, that NIPSA has lead the challenge on behalf of members across the union.

We have members working from home, members working on the front line whether that be in the civil service, health service, local government, education, housing, libraries or the other areas were NIPSA organise. Each and every member has played their part in delivering vital public services for citizens whether they be young, old or middle aged. These are challenging times for all of us in our working lives trying to cope with all the family issues that have visited us all during the last year. We could not have imagined this time last year what the following year would bring – I hope you and your family have stayed safe and well during this time. For those of you who have lost family members whether that be due to Covid-19 or for other reasons the thoughts of the NIPSA family are with you. If you need support in any way please do not hesitate to seek support from your union colleagues.

To all the many NIPSA representatives across the union it is right, that on behalf of the General Council, I extend a massive thank you for all the hard work you do day and daily on behalf of NIPSA. The union would not be the strong union it is today without the many representatives who freely give of their time. There is much more work to do over the next period of time, however I know that our representatives will continue to do the work on the ground to represent and advise members.

To the staff of NIPSA a big thank you – you have all risen to the challenge as well and I am delighted that we have pulled as a team in the interests of members and the union to keep the machinery of the union working, whether that be at a negotiating level or administrative level with staff working tirelessly on behalf of members.

Over the coming months there will continue to be many challenges – we can rise to each and every one of them. The strength of NIPSA is with every person in whatever role they perform – keep strong and keep up the good work.
