Following a recent meeting with the Permanent Secretary, NIPSA and our sister unions were informed that Health and Social Care organisations will be expected to deliver savings of more than 12% over the next three years.
After years of efficiency programmes, we do not believe cuts of this scale can be achieved without impacting services and staff.
Agency spending has already been reduced. Overtime has already been cut. Vacancies have already been left unfilled.
There is little left to cut.
So when managers talk about reducing services or asking already overstretched staff to take on additional duties, let's call it what it is:
These are cuts, not efficiencies.
This comes as Health and Social Care workers continue to wait for a pay award already paid elsewhere in the UK, while low-paid staff are still waiting for the Real Living Wage.
NIPSA will continue to campaign for:
- Fair pay
- Proper funding
- Safe staffing levels
- Protection of services
- Respect for Health and Social Care workers
We will keep members updated as the campaign develops.
Enough is Enough.
Get Ready to Take Action
Itβs time to stand together to defend our health service - NO to cuts, YES to fair pay and the Real Living Wage! NIPSA and our sister unions will protest at Trust Board meetings on 27 August 2026.
Times and venues will be announced shortly.
Together, we can stop this attack on our services, our members and our communities.
