The 13th Annual Virtual Health and Safety Conference took place on 25 October 2022 to coincide with European Week for Safety and Health at Work.
Addressing the conference was the Department of Health Chief Scientific Advisor, Professor Ian Young, who thanked delegates for the contribution they had made, working with the Department, over the last very difficult two years responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. He reflected on the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and discussed more broadly the risks of infection that future pandemics might pose, including Monkeypox.
Our second keynote speaker was Louis Burns, Deputy Chief Executive from the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI). Louis talked about proposals for the new Corporate Plan and provided an overview of what the HSENI experience of COVID-19 was, including the emerging issues for the HSENI on workplace health, safety and welfare.
Two panel debates were held examining the issues around long COVID and emerging case law, the cost of living crisis and the impact on members’ mental health
