Wednesday 15 July 2026 is World Youth Skills Day and the theme for this year is ‘Skills for a shared future’

World Youth Skills Day celebrates the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.  The biggest idea behind it is clear, that if there is good support for youth skills development, young people will be more ready for learning, work, and for making social progress too.

Why is it important?

  • 1 in 5 individuals aged 15 – 34 remain disengaged from formal pathways to skill development
  • 40% of today’s skillsets no longer match job market needs
  • 273 million children and young people are out of school
  • 22% of jobs will transform by 2030 due to technological disruption (YMCA Europe)

World Youth Skills Day gives young people the right space to learn, speak, and connect with others.   Further it shows a global commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, and better chances for all to learn things that help shape their future.
