What is it?
World Wellbeing Week 24-30 June 2026 is a global awareness week focused on improving health and wellbeing in the workplace and wider society. At work, it is aimed at encouraging organisations to pause, reflect, and take meaningful steps that support employee wellbeing.
Why it is important?
The Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) (2023/2024) found that:
- Roughly 15,000 workers in Northern Ireland suffered from stress, depression, or anxiety caused or made worse by work.
- An estimated 320,000 working days are lost annually in Northern Ireland due to these work-related mental health issues.
- Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime, with stress and depression being the most common.
The main work factors cited as causing work-related stress, depression or anxiety include the demands of the job, lack of control, lack of information and support, work relationships, and roles and responsibilities.
Here are a few ideas to get you going this World Wellbeing Week:
- Physical Health: Go for a 20-minute walk or try a new healthy recipe.
- Emotional Wellbeing: Spend a few minutes journaling to look at your thoughts and feelings.
- Environmental Wellbeing: Spend time in nature. You could go to a park or sit in your garden.
- Social Connection: Call a friend or family member you have not chatted to in a long time.
- Financial Stability: Take 15 minutes to look at your budget or set a simple savings goal.
