NIPSA is encouraging members and the wider public to attend free talks this June with internationally acclaimed playwright Ed Waugh, ahead of performances of The Cramlington Train Wreckers this July.
Following a sold‑out run across England, The Cramlington Train Wreckers will come to The Playhouse, Derry/Londonderry on 8 July and The Waterfront Hall, Belfast on 9 July, as part of events marking 100 years since the 1926 General Strike.
Ahead of the performances, Ed Waugh will visit Belfast and Derry/Londonderry to speak about the play, the history behind it, and the story of the men at its centre.
Free Public Talks – June
There will be two opportunities to attend these free events:
- Waterfront Hall, Belfast – Wednesday 17 June at 3.00pm
- The Playhouse, Derry/Londonderry – Thursday 18 June at 2.00pm and 7.00pm
Admission is free and open to all, with no booking required.
About the Play
The Cramlington Train Wreckers tells the extraordinary true story of eight miners who were imprisoned during the 1926 General Strike after a derailment involving the Flying Scotsman. Despite no loss of life, the men were sentenced to a total of 48 years’ imprisonment in what was widely seen as a political punishment.
The play brings this powerful story to the stage, exploring themes of injustice, solidarity and collective action. It has received standing ovations and sold out performances across England.
