NIPSA has expressed full solidarity with teaching unions as they ballot members over excessive workload pressures.
Speaking following a meeting at Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (NIC-ICTU) last week, NIPSA General Secretary Carmel Gates commented:
“This issue was discussed at NIC-ICTU and I made clear that NIPSA gives full support to the teaching unions. We also welcome the wider support being shown by trade unions to their action on workload – this is an issue that affects the whole education workforce.”
While NIPSA does not represent teachers, the union highlighted that its members across the Education Authority – including classroom assistants and support staff – are facing similar and increasing pressures in their roles.
The union will continue to monitor developments and keep members informed.
