NIPSA members in BSO Warehouse Operations in Belfast and Lisburn continued their weeklong strike action today, in response to the continuing failure to address low pay across the Health Service and wider public sector.
Around 50 members, some of the lowest paid in the health service, are on strike from the 18th to 22nd December.
NIPSA Deputy General Secretary Patrick Mulholland said “The Secretary of State, Chris Heaton-Harris, needs to end the pay sanctions imposed on health service workers in Northern Ireland.
These workers, who deliver the same vital services as their colleagues across the UK, are being held hostage by the Secretary of State and having their pay used as a bargaining chip in a political game.
The Secretary of State must release the funds necessary to end this dispute, immediately.
These workers cannot wait for the return of the Assembly for this issue to be addressed – they are struggling now.
NIPSA is calling on Chris Heaton-Harris to make the money available now to immediately provide the pay uplift these essential workers need and deserve.”
