NIPSA’s campaign to rectify the disparity between PSNI Officers’ and Civilian Staff pay has made significant progress in recent weeks.
NIPSA has seen a dramatic increase in membership in the PSNI following the successful Holiday Pay outcome and the legal support being offered to staff following the recent data beach. But the priority for members on the ground is the frozen Revised Environmental allowance (REA), aka “danger money”, which has remained unchanged for civilian staff for over 30 years, whilst Police Officers’ allowance see regular increases.
With the increase in membership and the outcry from members highlighting the REA issue, NIPSA have been able to strengthen industrial relations within the PSNI, holding discussions with the Interim Chief Constable and DoJ Permanent Secretary. This week, NIPSA met with the Policing Board to discuss an increase in REA for members.
