Health Minister Simon Hamiliton has indicated that the life-time ban on gay men giving blood may be lifted. Judges are currently considering an appeal by previous Health Minister Edwin Poots after his decision to uphold the ban was considered ‘irrational’. Mr Hamilton has stated that a new report on the current level of risk associated with deferral would help guide him as to whether the ban should be lifted.
