Further to NIPSA Bulletin issued on 17 May 2021 I wish to update members on the latest developments.

NIPSA met this morning with the Finance Minister and pressed home our arguments for an improved pay offer. We raised a number of pertinent points following members’ rejection of the offer, including the fact that members are angry that they are being treated differently in terms of pay from teachers who received a 2% consolidated offer. We pressed the Minister to re-open negotiations on the points we raised including the fact that inflation is now running at 1.5% with the expectation that it may increase further over the coming months. This would effectively mean further cuts in real terms, not our claim for pay restoration to be seriously addressed.

The Minister listened to our views and indicated that he would consider all the points raised. He is also awaiting the outcome of the consultation being conducted by our sister unions who represent the industrial unions. I understand that is due before the end of this week.

The Minister indicated that he would consider the issues including those of the industrial unions before reaching a conclusion.

Once a response is received from the Minister a further communication will be issued to branches.
