Earlier this year NIPSA, GMB and UNITE unions learned that Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council proposed the outsourcing of the black bin and dry recycling collections in the Newtownabbey area and the brown bin collection services in both the Antrim and Newtownabbey areas. NIPSA in conjunction with sister unions have opposed the further outsourcing of waste collection services from the outset.

Following a resounding rejection by residents in The Grange, Ballyclare a fundamental rethink of the Department for Community’s housing strategy is now required asserted Paddy Mackel, NIPSA Official with responsibility for Housing issues.

You will be aware that as part of the 2 year NJC pay settlement covering 2016 and 2017, it was agreed that two reviews would be conducted in relation to the NJC pay spine and on term-time working arrangements respectively.  I am detailing below an update in respect of both reviews.

I am setting out here the response of NIPSA, Northern Ireland’s largest trade union, to the above consultation. NIPSA is the biggest trade union in local government, representing just under 4,000 local government employees across the 11 Councils.
