Transcript of the Minister's response below, the pdf version is available to download from the link at the bottom of the page.

Alison Millar
General Secretary

Dear Alison

NICS Industrial Action

Thank you for your letter of 21 March about reimbursing civil servants for pay deductions during strike action since July 2019. I apologise for the delay in responding to you.

I fully acknowledge and am grateful to the many civil servants who are providing key services to our citizens at this time. The hard work of all civil servants and their determination and flexibility to ensure we continue to deliver vital public services during these unprecedented times is greatly appreciated and I was pleased to award civil servants a 2% pay increase this year.

In relation to the reimbursement of strike pay for nurses and health workers given the current Covid-19 pandemic, I am sure you will appreciate that the circumstances for health workers are unique and exceptional. This decision is therefore for health workers only.

Is mise le meas

Conor Murphy MLA Minister of Finance
