Members are entitled to free initial legal advice on personal matters through the union’s solicitors McCartan Turkington Breen on matters such as tenancy, hire purchase agreements, or disputes with neighbours, road traffic accidents, trusts and wills and criminal injury. Legal Assistance (Personal Injury) Scheme
Any NIPSA member who sustains a personal injury as a result of an accident, whether or not this happens in the course of duty, contracts a disease at work or is injured as the result of negligence of a third party has access to the union’s Legal Assistance (Personal Injury) Scheme.
Access to this scheme is via the Executive Officer (Membership & Legal Services) at NIPSA Headquarters.
Legal Advice on Employment Matters
Employment-related matters, which cannot be resolved through the normal union negotiating machinery, may be referred to the union’s solicitors for advice. In all cases this must be carried out through the relevant NIPSA Headquarters Official who will decide if this is the appropriate course of action.
