NIPSA the largest trade union in Northern Ireland issues the following statement following the Prime Minister’s statement on Sunday evening.
NIPSA’s General Secretary commented:
It is regrettable that the Prime Minister has confused the public with the UK new messaging of Stay Alert, Control the Virus, Save Lives. The message is mixed stay at home if you can but go to work. This virus has killed over 30,000 across the UK and over 500 in Northern Ireland. Now is not the time to send out confusing messages. It is clear the NI Executive, the Welsh and Scottish Governments are clearly staying the message should remain Stay at Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.
NIPSA will be working with all public sector employers to ensure that staff are kept safe, and the primary message must remain if you can work from home. If you can’t work from home then strong social distancing measures must be in place. NIPSA is engaged across all areas of the public sector on a daily basis to ensure our members are kept safe and no-one is forced to attend work were proper social distancing and other measures are not in place.
