As you will be aware, the traditional May Day celebrations have been cancelled this year as a result of Covid-19.

However, the call has gone out that trade unionists should mark the actual May Day, which is Friday 1st of May, by flying red flags and trade union flags and banners. The call has been supported by the NI Committee of the ICTU as well as a number of Trades Union Councils and other unions.

I would ask, therefore, that where possible and where branches already have flags, that NIPSA members would raise their union flags and red flags in a show of workers’ struggle, solidarity and support for each other, particularly in these very difficult times.

Please maintain safe social distancing and take pictures for sharing on social media.
